St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado sends fear into San Diego Padres fans after hitting a two-run home run on Sunday.
The St. Louis Cardinals have not had the greatest time in California, as they have lost the first two games of their three-game series against the San Diego Padres. Entering Sunday night, the Cardinals were outscored by the Padres 18-7. The Cardinals may not even out the scoring, but third baseman Nolan Arenado got the team on the board first on Sunday.
In the top of the first inning with outfielder Dylan Carlson on first base, Arenado smashed a two-run homer to the left field stands to give St. Louis n early 2-0 lead. If you watch the following video, you can hear a fan in attendance scream “oh no” when watching Arenado make contact.
Cardinals: Nolan Arenado gives St. Louis an early 2-0 lead over the San Diego Padres on Sunday
While the impact and fan reaction was spectacular, what is even more impressive is that Arenado clinched a three-game home run streak, and it all began in San Diego!
Unfortunately for Cardinals fans, the lead was short-lived. Pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim loaded up the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning and walked Tucupita Marcano and Ha-Seong Kim in succession, allowing the Padres to tie things up at two runs apiece.
Once Genesis Cabrera entered in relief of Kim, he immediately surrendered two runs on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Kivlehan and an RBI single by Ivan Castillo to give the Padres a 4-2 lead.
While the early lead disappeared, that fan in the stands of Petco Park will never forget that Arenado home run.
