The Cincinnati Reds will be left furious on Wednesday, as they made some unfortunate MLB history in their loss to the Diamondbacks.

In what’s been an incredibly inconsistent season thus far for the Cincinnati Reds, things somehow got even worse for the club on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That’s because the team did what would normally be more than enough to come away with a victory.

Going up against Cincinnati, the Reds belted six homers and starting pitcher Jeff Hoffman gave up one earned run in five innings of work. Surely that meant they came out on top, right? Nope. Cincinnati suffered a disappointing 14-11 defeat.

The Reds loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday will sting for a long time

How in the world does a team actually end up losing this game? You mean to tell us that the Reds belted six dingers and got a quality start from Hoffman, yet ended up giving up 14 runs in a loss? You simply can’t make this kind of stuff up.

If you’re a Reds fans, though, you’re used to this kind of result. It’s been a long stretch of disappointment for the club and things don’t appear to be turning around in the near future. With Wednesday’s loss, the NL Central squad is now 9-9 on the year. Fortunately the Pittsburgh Pirates are only two games ahead of them in the division standings, but how long can we expect the Cubs and Cardinals to struggle? Both those teams are bound to right the ship here pretty soon.

For the Reds, they’ve just got to find ways to win these kinds of ball games. To score 11 runs, get a head-turning start from Hoffman and still lose is a gut punch for so many out there in Cincinnati.
