The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded first baseman Josh Bell to the Washington Nationals in a monster move.

Who in the heck saw this move coming? While millions of folks are out there doing last-minute Christmas shopping, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals were busy working overtime on the biggest trade of the offseason thus far.

On Thursday, MLB insider Jeff Passan has dropped an absolute bomb, reporting that the Pirates have agreed to trade stud first baseman Josh Bell to the Washington Nationals. Again, this is major MLB news to start the holidays.

The Nationals landing Josh Bell via trade is monster news for the organization

Nationals fans across the country are probably doing backflips right now and for good reason. The 28-year-old Bell has solidified himself as one of the best first baseman in the game. In 2019, the slugger had a breakout year for Pittsburgh, belting 37 homers and adding 116 RBI.

His strong showing in ’19 led to All-Star Game honors. In 2020 during the shortened 60-game campaign, Bell hit eight dingers and recorded 22 RBI. With his powerful bat and outstanding abilities in the infield, he had quickly become a fan favorite for everyone in Pittsburgh.

Now, Bell will be getting ready to take his talents to Washington and look to help the Nats go on another serious postseason run next year. This team won its first World Series back in 2019, shocking MLB fans everywhere. It’s quite clear that general manager Mike Rizzo has made a statement with his latest trade and the NL as a whole should be on notice.

An early Christmas present has arrived for Nats fans in the form of a 6-foot-4, 250-pound superstar. Once Bell hits the field for Washington this spring, he’ll be ready to put on another show in 2021.
